The part about “in order to have relationships, we’ve all had to tell little pieces of our story”, stood out to me in the fact that you never really know someone until you know who they are and other then being around that person all the time you also have to listen to their story.

I thought the example of how that girl told the story of her crashing her moms car differently to her friends then to her mom because I agree with the fact that most people won’t tell the entire story or will leave some parts out depending on who they are talking to and what the story is about. I am not saying that I crashed my moms car but if i’m telling a funny story to someone that maybe inappropriate, I am not going to tell my mom the inappropriate parts of that story.

Everybody has different life stories but I agree with her when she says “that finding a positive meaning to a negative events is linked to a more complex sense of self and greater life satisfaction”, because it is going to lead to a better and more interesting life story for a person to hear. Yes you should tell your life story anyways but the parts about turning a negative event into a positive event is going to be more interesting.

I love your discussion about the quote that says stories are necessary to have relationships. I did not catch this quote when I read the essay the first time and I really like it and can connect to it. I think your point is very accurate, you do not truly know someone until you really know their story. I also really like the car example you discuss, I feel it is one we can all relate too because everyone tells their friends something one way and their mom a different way. I agree with you analysis that we change the story depending on who we are telling it tool

  2. I like the first quote that you included in your reflection. It wasn’t something I marked as significant after my first reading, but it was interesting to hear your point of view. I also agree with you on how you would modify certain parts of your story depending on the audience. I think everyone has a tendency to do this. Overall I like your reflection and your thoughts on the subject were really interesting, but next time I would try to maybe introduce the subject before jumping right into your thoughts! Overall it was great.
