See Through words

He talked a lot about how different people had different ways of looking at metaphors and how metaphors can be used to help understand things. When he posed the question about “do people interpret new metaphors more easily when the comparison between two domains is apt?”, I think that is right because I certainly feel that it is easier to understand things when you know a little about the topic at hand. When metaphors are comparing two things that you know, you will understand the metaphor more where as if you have no idea what the metaphor is talking about you will not understand. The way he describe using furniture in a metaphor was to help guide an understanding of what the meaning was and that “maybe the best metaphor needs no furniture”, because it’s a metaphor that everyone will understand. His question about “how much does a metaphor designer have? I feel as though they have a lot because they are some metaphors that can make people have a lot of opinion on, like the ones describing children. Also the 5th paragraph down on the 5th page had my mind blown because there were so many ways I wanted to think about those metaphors. The one that compares a bank to a container that we put are money really made me think because yea it could be but also money is so much more valuable then just a container that you would put left over food into. Know I didn’t put all these thought onto the paper but I was thinking them as I read so instead I but words like “wow” and “that blow my mind”. This was also a fun article to read because he made it feel like the reader was connected and I like how he had a little bit of humor. I too when never forget the idea that “when you eat a lot of sugar, they said, your body is browning from the inside”.

I love that you picked up on his humorous ending. It was rather dry, but it made me smile, as well. It seems like you picked up on so many exciting things during your read. Continue to challenge yourself to flesh out those “wows”–even if all you do is add a couple of words. “Wow–banks are so much more!” or
“Money doesn’t stay in “container” but actually gets invested. Banks DON’T equal containers.” You get the point, I’m sure. Keep up the great work!

Annotation note: Make sure that you link your images to the media file (you’ll see the option to the right of your editing screen under “block” and “link to”). I can’t read your annotations without you taking these steps. Thanks so much!
