Metaphors

I notice that I understood the ted talk a lot more reading it compared to when we listened to it the first time. There were a lot more information I didn’t pick up on when listening to it. When we was talking about the Bouba/Kiki test, I relate to it so much. I never heard of Bouba and Kiki before but I do correlate the round sound and shape to words that have a shorter tone to them like Bouba and the same with Kiki relating shape and sound to the spiky words. One thing that I missed before in the video was when he was talking about financial news and how agents use metaphors, I think I didn’t quite understand it in the video so I didn’t process it to remember it. Another thing missed was the “Cogito ergo sum” and the meaning of that. The first meaning of “I think, therefore I am” makes more sense to me than the second meaning of ” I shake things up, therefore I am”. I don’t know why because I get that metaphors are supposed to “shake things up” but also when you think you are something, giving yourself “a name that belongs to something else” that is what is in my mind about what a metaphor is.

First of all, I enjoyed learning more about you on your “About Me” page. Your experiences leading and traveling will serve you well throughout your college career. I’m also excited by your interest in teaching. I think one of the best things that you can do (in addition to pursuing education as a minor) is to pay attention to the things that your teachers do that work and note the things they do that don’t work, and feel free to share any and all insights! 🙂

Your reflection does a great job directly engaging Geary’s talk. Make sure that you upload 3-5 pages of annotation each time you annotate. It helps me build a clearer picture on your habits/needs. From what I can see, however, you are doing a good job personally connecting with the text. That’s great.
